Christmas

The Christmas lights are up in our cozy Children's Library.  Come in and find a nice holiday book!

We have several books about St. Nicholas, learn about his history, his good deeds and how he became tied to the Christmas holiday.

There are two wonderful books about candy canes- a staple of Christmas decorating and eating!

And of course the Nutcracker...

Soft pastel pictures decorate this version of e.e. cummings poem "Little Tree"- a sweet homage to picking out and decorating the Christmas tree.
After enjoying our Christmas pageant last week, pick up some of the beautiful Nativity storybooks.

Or see how countries around the world celebrate this season.

Have a very blessed and joy filled Christmas!!

Thanksgiving

Soon Thanksgiving will be here and to help you prepare, the Children's Library has a plethora of seasonal books!   How about a recipe book like Slumps, Grunts and Snickerdoodles, full of interesting historical facts and recipes from Colonial America?  There are several books of prayers and graces, perfect to recite at the dinner table.  Or learn about the Pilgrims and what led them to leave their home in England and come to a new land.  The kids might also like to read about the story of Squanto in Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving and what a blessing he was to the English settlers.  And Give Thanks to the Lord by Karma Wilson is a wonderful read-aloud psalm of thanks.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Halloween!

Stop by the Children's Library this week to see some creative pumpkins decorated by the ladies of the Montgomery County Corrections Facility as part of the Brush with the Law art program for prisoners.   While you're there, check out a Halloween book or two- there are plenty of neat ones to choose from!  Some are spooky stories, some tell the history of Halloween traditions and some are filled with great artwork.

Summer Reading!

Our Sunday School Summer Reading program is at an end.  Congratulations to all our fantastic summer readers!  The kids read over 21 books and filled out book recommendation cards with drawings which are now on display in the Children's Library.  Check them out!  You may just find a new book to enjoy.

All of the participants will receive a special treat bag and Hannah Yum was our top reader with 8 books and will get a gift card to Barnes and Noble.  Way to go, Hannah!

A sampling of some new additions to the library.
